Tatsuhiko Akashi had a deadline, no time, and one idea: to take the silhouette of a bear—which was celebrating its centenary at the time—and superimpose it onto the proven frame of his Kubrick figurine. On May 27, 2001, he distributed the result as a free gift to convention guests in Tokyo. No one knew that one of the most expensive designer toy art pieces in history had just been created. BE@RBRICK is not just a figurine—it's a blank canvas on which KAWS, Chanel, Basquiat, and Supreme have left their mark. A faceless bear that speaks with the voice of everyone who touches it.
