Libby Frame and the band that plays so loud
Three girls from the '90s, a band that never existed — and yet you can hear it in every detail of the figure.
Libby Frame is an illustrator from Los Angeles, a graduate of Illustration Design with a minor in Film Studies. Before she came to Pop Mart, she worked as a concept artist — drawing characters, building worlds, telling a story through movement and pose. When Pop Mart proposed a collaboration, she knew one thing: she had to create something she could work on for years. That's how Peach Riot was born — a band of three girls who live, rebel and play just the way she always wanted.
Poppy, Gigi and Frankie — a blonde, a redhead and a blue-haired one — each with her own character, set in the '90s in the US Pacific Northwest. These aren't figures, they're a band with a story.
Riot grrrl as DNA
The inspiration was the riot grrrl movement from Olympia, Washington — anarchic music, full of energy and freedom of expression. Libby took the aesthetic, the fashion and the spirit of that time and created something both nostalgic and very contemporary. Every figure has plenty of movement — the pose tells a story before you read any description. A graphic style, contrasting colours, stage costumes and musical details built into every design.
A mirror in the characters
Libby puts herself into each of the characters — not on purpose, it just comes out that way. Her own style, musical taste and identity are literally built into Peach Riot. This isn't a commissioned project — it's her world. For the Punk Fairy series she even wrote and recorded her own song, “Battle Fairy”, available on Spotify.
