Genesis
Born in 1986 in Hong Kong, raised between Hong Kong and Canada — Pucky grew up between two cultures and two identities. This experience became the core of her work. After graduating from Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Vancouver in 2008, she returned to Hong Kong, where she works as a freelance artist and illustrator. She took her pseudonym from Puck — the mischievous elf from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream. "Puck is a clever, mischievous fairy — I added 'y' and that became my pseudonym." In 2017, she signed a contract with Pop Mart, and a year later, the Pool Babies series debuted.
Cute & dark in harmony
Pucky's work is an integrated harmony of opposites — good and evil, love and fear, cute and dark coexist without conflict. This very tension makes her figures so irresistible.
Nature and the spiritual world
Pucky is inspired by nature, history, science, and romanticism. Her characters explore nature and the spiritual world — a colorful dream with sensitivity and a dark side.
Identity and belonging
Growing up between Hong Kong and Canada led her to artistically explore questions of identity and belonging. These are questions that live in each of her figures — however invisibly.
