Genesis

Hong Kong artist Kenny Wong has been creating figurines in the independent scene since 2000 — he started with the Brotherworkers series, inspired by construction workers on the streets of Hong Kong. Molly appeared in 2006 at a charity art event. The children for whom Wong drew portraits had the characteristic expression of a dissatisfied little artist. This facial expression — chubby, proud, slightly offended — became the face of Pop Mart entirely. In 2016, Wong began collaborating with Pop Mart, and Molly changed everything.

Who is Molly

A little painter with big green eyes, golden curls, and a characteristic pout. Born on February 3rd, Aquarius, favorite color: lake green. She likes to daydream, play pranks, and be an artist. Her expression is not anger — it is pride.

Foundation of everything

Molly not only launched Pop Mart — she created the template for the entire IP. Themed series, elements of surprise, limited editions, artistic collaborations — all of this was developed with Molly.

Visual language

Big eyes, minimal features, plump lips. An infinitely reinterpretable character — Molly can be an astronaut, a princess, a Disney character or a superhero, always remaining herself.

Hong Kong lineage

Kenny Wong points to Hong Kong street culture — graffiti, hip-hop, pioneering designer toy artists like Michael Lau — as his roots. Molly is Hong Kong captured in a figurine.

How to recognize an original

Eye color — original Molly has distinctive lake-green eyes with a deep luster. Fakes have flat, different shades, or blurry eyes.
Pouting facial expression — subtle, precise. Fake figurines have overly symmetrical or exaggerated lips.
Logo on the base — original Molly has the Pop Mart and Molly logo embossed on the bottom of the base. Missing or illegible logos are a red flag.
Accessories — some series include additional elements (scarf, umbrella, coat). Missing or poor-quality accessories indicate a fake.

🏗️ Started with workers

Kenny Wong's first series — Brotherworkers from 2000 — was inspired by construction workers on the streets of Hong Kong. No one planned it to be the beginning of a global phenomenon.
