Cinnamoroll: Miyuki Okumura - KICKOMI

Cinnamoroll: Miyuki Okumura

Dowiedz się więcej →

A white puppy born on a cloud, with ears so long he can fly with them, and a tail curled like a cinnamon roll. Miyuki Okumura created him in 2001 — after Sanrio rejected her first proposal. She came back with a new version and created a character who won the title of Sanrio's most popular character five times in a row, beating even Hello Kitty. Cinnamoroll appeared at a moment when Japan was looking for soothing design — calm, soft, without drama. A shy but friendly puppy from a café on a hill landed exactly in that need. Okumura also fought for the blue eyes — Sanrio warned that blue would scare off the girl fans. She stuck to her guns and won. How did an icon emerge from a rejected design? What makes Cinnamoroll work like visual therapy? And why did the blue that was supposed to be a mistake become his signature?
