Monchhichi: Yoshiharu Washino & Sekiguchi - KICKOMI

Monchhichi: Yoshiharu Washino & Sekiguchi

Dowiedz się więcej →

On 25 January 1974 the designer Yoshiharu Washino created in Tokyo a monkey with its thumb to its lips, five freckles on each cheek and a vinyl little face on a plush body. Sekiguchi Corporation wanted to teach children love and respect. In Japan, legend says that a pair of Monchhichi given to the person you love brings happiness for life — which is why they were always sold as a duo. In Germany they sold better than in Japan. In France they were Kiki, in Italy Mon Cicci, in the UK Chicaboo. Hanna-Barbera made a series. Mattel bought the licence. In 2024 Monchhichi celebrated its 50th birthday — and it still holds its thumb to its lips.
