Monchhichi Girl with Pigtails | 10 cm

109,99 zł

She's been sucking her thumb since 1974 and has never once gone out of style. This is Monchhichi as a girl — two pigtails tied with bows and a bib, exactly as you remember her from childhood or from someone's shelf. The original from Sekiguchi, the Japanese company that invented this little monkey and has been making her non-stop for half a century: thick fur, a matte face, bows sewn on, not glued. Ten centimetres on a key ring, so you can carry a piece of your own history with you.

Monchhichi: Yoshiharu Washino & Sekiguchi - KICKOMI

Monchhichi: Yoshiharu Washino & Sekiguchi

Learn more →

On 25 January 1974 the designer Yoshiharu Washino created in Tokyo a monkey with its thumb to its lips, five freckles on each cheek and a vinyl little face on a plush body. Sekiguchi Corporation wanted to teach children love and respect. In Japan, legend says that a pair of Monchhichi given to the person you love brings happiness for life — which is why they were always sold as a duo. In Germany they sold better than in Japan. In France they were Kiki, in Italy Mon Cicci, in the UK Chicaboo. Hanna-Barbera made a series. Mattel bought the licence. In 2024 Monchhichi celebrated its 50th birthday — and it still holds its thumb to its lips.
