Asia is a paradise for all those who love kawaii, figurines, blind boxes, and pop-culture vibes. This guide will show you where to find the most wonderful gadgets and limited editions that are virtually impossible to get in Europe — and a few things that will surprise you.

Some series arrive in Europe months later. In Asia, they're already on the shelves.

🇯🇵 Japan — the homeland of kawaii

If there's one place you absolutely must visit as a fan of cute gadgets, it's Japan. Kawaii isn't just a trend here — it's a lifestyle stemming from post-war culture that now influences fashion, design, and pop culture worldwide.

Fun Fact: The word "kawaii" (かわいい) originally meant "pitiable" or "ashamed." In the 1970s, Japanese youth adopted it and changed its meaning to "cute" — as a form of rebellion against adult, corporate aesthetics.

📍 Tokyo — Harajuku, Shibuya, Akihabara

Takeshita Street in Harajuku is the epicenter of kawaii — dozens of boutiques, gachapon machines, photo spots, Sanrio Gift Gate, and the five-story Kiddy Land with an entire floor dedicated to Hello Kitty. Weekends are packed, weekdays are quieter.

Akihabara — "Electric Town" — is a gachapon machine mecca. Akihabara Gachapon Kaikan houses hundreds of machines across several floors. Bring plenty of 100-yen coins.

Shibuya Loft has a huge kawaii and Pop Mart section. If you're looking for something more niche — explore the side streets of Harajuku (known as Urahara), where smaller boutiques offer items you won't find anywhere else.

Practical Tip: Most stores in Harajuku open at 11:00–11:30 AM. Don't go in the morning — they'll be closed. Laforet Harajuku is an 8-story shopping mall with approximately 140 stores — a good starting point.
  • Sanrio Gift Gate — official store for Hello Kitty, My Melody, Cinnamoroll
  • Kiddy Land Harajuku — 5 floors, Snoopy, Ghibli, Rilakkuma
  • Don Quijote — has everything: blind boxes, mascots, gadgets, often cheaper than in specialty stores
  • Akihabara Gachapon Kaikan — hundreds of machines, cash only

🇰🇷 South Korea — clean kawaii

Seoul has its own, more minimalist kawaii style — pastel, neat, closer to the "clean girl aesthetic." If Japanese kawaii is loud and colorful, Korean is quiet and precise.

Fun Fact: Pop Mart opened its first Korean flagship store in Hongdae in July 2022. The three-story, nearly 400 m² store was designed around the motto "Connection + Imagination" — the third floor features a special area for meetings with artists behind the figurines.

📍 Hongdae

The district near Hongik University — youthful, full of small shops with Korean mascots, planners, and figurines. The Pop Mart Flagship Store is at exit 9 of Hongdae subway station and is an absolute must-visit for blind box fans.

📍 Line Friends & Kakao Friends Store

If you love BT21 or Choco & Brown — Line Friends Store is a paradise. Kakao Friends has large, colorful stores with Ryan and Apeach, often with a cafe inside. Both have stores in several locations in Seoul.

🇹🇭 Thailand — hidden gem

Thailand is totally surprising with how many kawaii gadgets it has. Bangkok is one of the best places in Asia to buy Pop Mart — often cheaper and with series not yet available in Europe.

Fun Fact: Pop Mart opened its first Thai flagship store in CentralWorld in partnership with Minor International — one of Asia's largest lifestyle companies. The 169 m² store on the first floor of CentralWorld regularly has queues at the checkouts. Labubu sells out immediately after delivery here.

📍 Siam Center & CentralWorld

Siam Center is a modern shopping mall full of stores selling figurines and blind boxes — more local brands and independent artists. CentralWorld is a huge mall (one of the 11 largest in the world) with Pop Mart on the first floor and exclusive series.

📍 Night markets — Jodd Fairs, Train Night Market Ratchada

This is where the real adventure begins. Independent artists sell handmade figurines, keychains, and unique kawaii items for a fraction of the store price. Jodd Fairs is especially popular among local collectors.

  • Cute handmade keychains from local artists
  • Figurines from independent creators — cheaper than anywhere else
  • Thailand often gets new Pop Mart series before Europe

🇮🇩 Bali — boho kawaii

Bali is associated with surfing and digital nomads, but it has a ton of cute boutiques and mini concept stores — especially in Ubud and Canggu. It's more indie-kawaii than classic Japanese.

Fun Fact: Bali has a very active scene of independent artists making figurines inspired by local mythology and kawaii aesthetics. You won't find these things anywhere else in the world.
  • Handmade figurines from local ceramics and wood
  • Art prints — unique, original
  • Pastel home decorations
  • Mini mascots and keychains in boho-kawaii style

🇨🇳 China — the home of Pop Mart

If you love Molly, Pucky, Hirono, Crybaby — China is absolutely number one. Most blind box brands originate here. Pop Mart was founded in Beijing in 2010 and now has over 400 stores worldwide.

Fun Fact: Pop Mart debuted on the Hong Kong stock exchange in 2020. On its first day of trading, the stock price rose by over 100%. The company is valued at billions of dollars — all thanks to figurines in sealed boxes.

📍 Shanghai Pop Mart Mega Store

A huge, multi-story store with exclusive series available only in China. Collectors from all over the world dream of visiting — and return with suitcases full of figurines.

📍 Beijing — Sanlitun

A trendy district with many figurine boutiques and concept stores. Here you can find artistic collaborations that are not available anywhere else.
