It all started with a bag of fake teeth on eBay
In 2010, British artist Louise McGettrick was looking for a gift for her husband and fell down an eBay rabbit hole. At the end of that hole: an auction for a bag of dental prosthetics. The idea of sewing human teeth into a teddy bear seemed so absurd to her that she had to do it. Her husband was terrified. For Louise, this was a sign she was on the right track. This is how Fugglers — "Funny Ugly Monsters" — were born: plush monsters with human teeth, button eyes, and the character of a troublesome friend you can't help but like.
From Etsy to Spin Master
McGettrick started selling handmade Fugglers on Etsy — with no business plan, no marketing, and an advertising budget of exactly £25 spent on a local newspaper ad (which resulted in no sales). Yet, Fugglers grew. In 2018, Canadian giant Spin Master acquired the brand rights. In 2021, the license was taken over by British company Addo Play, and today, global distribution is managed by Libertas Brands.
Human teeth as a trademark
Every Fuggler has a set of realistic human teeth — it's its definition and soul. Original handmade versions featured real dental prosthetics. Today, high-quality artificial teeth are used, but the effect remains the same: encountering a Fuggler is an experience that either repels you or instantly hooks you. The company claims that Fugglers steal teeth from innocent victims — so beware.
Anti-cute as a philosophy
Fuggler is a response to a world oversaturated with cuteness. While other brands vie for adorableness, McGettrick went in the exact opposite direction. The result? "Ugly cute" — a hideousness so consistent and with such a sense of humor that it becomes irresistibly attractive. The Fuggler phenomenon proves that aesthetic discomfort can be just as addictive as kawaii.
Collaborations and crossovers
Under the wing of Spin Master, Fugglers entered the world of pop culture: Jaws (50th Anniversary), Lord of the Rings, Gremlins, DC, SpongeBob, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Each collaboration maintains the same DNA — a monster with teeth that intentionally and gracefully messes up your life. In 2024, Fugglers officially entered the Chinese market.

Officially here to mess up your life — intentionally and gracefully
Louise McGettrick bought a bag of fake teeth, sewed them into a teddy bear, and did what anyone would do in her place — put it on Etsy. Her husband was terrified. The rest of the world was delighted. That's how the best things are made.
