Wakuku is not just another cute figurine – he is a plush hunter from an ancient tribe, traveling through time and space, discovering fashion, music, and toy trends. Round cheeks, big eyes, a tuft of hair on his head, and a distinctive unibrow – this expression, a mix of mischief and determination, is instantly recognizable. Created by Letsvan – a creative studio from Shenzhen (Shenzhen Yiqi Culture Co.) – Wakuku debuted at the end of 2024 and within a few months became the hottest new IP in the Chinese designer toys world, comparable to Labubu.
Letsvan & MINISO
Letsvan is an IP studio operating under the umbrella of MINISO – the Chinese retail giant with over 7,000 stores worldwide. Wakuku's debut took place on March 29, 2025, at MINISO LAND in Beijing – a flagship store styled as a theme park. The "Panda Dada" series sold out in two hours. Trends like "Wakuku plush" and "Wakuku vs Labubu" instantly exploded on Chinese platforms and Google Trends globally.
Celebrities and viral
Wakuku's popularity was fueled by Chinese celebrities. In December 2024, actors Ding Yuxi and Esther Yu from a popular historical drama regularly featured Wakuku on social media – fans immediately rushed to stores. Olympic champions Chen Meng and Quan Hongchan joined the trend. For Gen Z, Wakuku became more than a toy – a fashion statement.
Design and philosophy
Wakuku is a plush hunter from an ancient clan – his unibrow, small fangs, and round cheeks symbolize the spirit of freedom and joy. His catchphrase is "WAKUKU~!" – meaning "go with the flow". Each figurine has interchangeable accessories (hats, necklaces) and movable limbs. The character's philosophy: to remind adults that they were once children who didn't ask for permission.
Global rollout
Within just a few months of its debut, Wakuku reached Dubai, Jakarta, the USA, Canada, and Australia. On August 13, 2025, MINISO announced the first pop-ups in the States. An exclusive "Flower Gentleman" edition for Indonesia. The "Fox & Bunny Trick-or-Treat" series as a global blind box exclusive. Wakuku is growing faster than any other new IP in recent years.
