Letsvan and the jungle hunter who conquered cities in a few months
A plush hunter from an ancient tribe, a unibrow and little fangs — he debuted in March 2025, and by August he was already in Dubai, Jakarta and New York.
Wakuku isn't just another cute figure — he's a plush hunter from an ancient tribe who travels through time and space, discovering fashion, music and toy trends. Round cheeks, big eyes, a shock of hair and a distinctive unibrow — his expression, somewhere between mischief and determination, is instantly recognisable. Created by Letsvan, a Shenzhen creative studio (Shenzhen Yiqi Culture Co.), Wakuku debuted at the end of 2024 and within a few months became the hottest new IP in the Chinese designer-toy world, compared to Labubu.
Letsvan operates under the umbrella of MINISO — the Chinese retail giant with over 7,000 stores worldwide. Wakuku's public debut took place on 29 March 2025 at MINISO LAND in Beijing, a flagship store in the style of a theme park. The "Panda Dada" series sold out in two hours, and the trends "Wakuku plush" and "Wakuku vs Labubu" instantly exploded on Chinese platforms and in Google Trends.
Celebrities and virality
Wakuku's popularity was driven by Chinese stars. In December 2024, the actors Ding Yuxi and Esther Yu regularly showed Wakuku on social media, and fans immediately rushed to the stores. Olympic champions Chen Meng and Quan Hongchan joined in. For Gen Z, Wakuku became more than a toy — a fashion statement. His catchphrase is "WAKUKU~!", meaning "go with your instincts"; each figure has interchangeable accessories and movable limbs, and the character's philosophy is to remind adults that they were once children who didn't ask for permission.
A global rollout
In just a few months from his debut, Wakuku reached Dubai, Jakarta, the USA, Canada and Australia. On 13 August 2025, MINISO announced the first pop-ups in the States, an exclusive "Flower Gentleman" edition for Indonesia appeared, along with a global "Fox & Bunny Trick-or-Treat" blind box. Wakuku is growing faster than any other new IP in recent years.
